Certification Process

1) Candidates will complete the six-unit coaching course:

a) Unit 1(2hrs) – The Snatch and Clean & Jerk
b) Unit 2(2hrs) – Assistance Exercises and Their Applications
c) Unit 3 (2hrs) – Programming Part 1
d) Unit 4 (2hrs) – Programming Part 2
e) Unit 5 (2hrs) – Coaching a Weightlifting Meet
f) Unit 6 (2hrs) – The Coach/Athlete Relationship

Each unit will include a lecture, hands on experience, and a practical.

The Exam

The Coaches’ Exam will consist of 50 multiple choice questions.

Candidates must answer 80% of questions correctly in order to receive a passing score.

Candidates will be allowed three attempts to successfully complete the exam. The first attempt will immediately follow completion of the twelve hour course. If a candidate fails the first time, he or she can schedule up to two more attempts. If a candidate fails the exam three times, he or she will be required to retake the entire course (at no additional cost) and then successfully complete the exam in order to become certified.

Candidates who successfully complete the course and the exam will receive the following:

  1. An Iron Athlete Coach’s Certificate
  2. They will be added to the list of Iron Athlete Coaches on the Iron Athlete Website.
  3. An Iron Athlete Weightlifting Coach Polo Shirt.
